What does Kinaesthesia mean?

Kinaesthesia or the “kinaesthestic sense” is your mind’s ability to monitor your body’s position and movement in space. It is a form of self-awareness that is often so subtle, it gets swallowed by our gross, everyday movements.

Stand up, sit down, walk forward, bend sideways.

There are many nuances to our movements that, when we slow down and start to feel fiber by fiber, can actually give us necessary information about ourselves. With a little guidance and breath, we tune into these subtleties and learn more about what the limitations or confines in our motions are, and why. Understanding this can lead to greater mechanical receptivity which in turn affects connective tissue transformation and healing.

You could say that the kinaesthetic sense is akin to your 6th sense. It serves as a gateway to understanding the influence that our bodies have on us mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Naturally, this is a two-way street. We can also gather information on how our thoughts, feelings, and connection to the unseen affects us physically. As you develop this sense, you will notice more and more through the lens of the body.

And of course your kinaesthetic sense influences physical performance and comfort. If you can tune into that shoulder tension and release those muscle fibers, you change the shape of your movement.

Touch & Psychedelic Therapy

Have you been curious about the burgeoning evidence around Psychedelic-assisted therapy and its ability to help us heal deep-seated trauma and overcome otherwise treatment-resistant disorders and challenges?

We are at a pivotal, historical time as many of these medicines are under research and study, and are poised for legalization and applications in the western medical field.

In this video, I talk about the importance of weaving therapeutic touch into our touch-starved society, as these medicines welcome us into deeper healing within our psyches. We don’t want to leave our bodies behind on the path to mental and emotional wellness!

Learn about the important neurobiological foundations of our sense of touch, it’s architectural role in building our emotional and stress response systems, and its continued facilitation of our epigenomic reality.
