The Awesome Jar

I can’t take credit for this idea, it was passed on to me.

I share it here because it is one of the most fun and simple reminders I know about the power of counting your wins.

The Awesome Jar is for the moments when you forget how far you’ve come.

When the mind clings to what didn’t work and conveniently overlooks what *did*.

We’re very good at cataloging our missteps. We scan for danger, right? It's part of our old survival biology. We’re much worse at remembering our wins - the quiet, ordinary ones,

the moments of effort and care that slowly build a life. The flashes of joy and connection that give us light during darker stretches of time.

So do yourself this favor: Make yourself an Awesome Jar.

Here's the steps:

  • Find a jar. It's need to be big enough to hold a growing

     pile of scrap paper.

  • Label it or decorate it however you like. Stickers, colored paper, paint, whatever floats your awesome boat.

  • Get a pad of sticky notes or create a little pile of scrap paper

and a pen and place them next to the jar so there is always an

easy way to jot those moments down and collect them.

TADA! ✨ This is your **Jar of Awesome**.

Start putting your moments in it. All of the good ones.

Anything that gives you a spark of pride, relief, joy, or satisfaction.

Here's some examples to get your mind warmed up....

  • I woke up without my alarm today

  • I earned more this week than I have all quarter.

  • I made the perfect batch of ramen.

  • I had a personal best in my workout today

  • My partner and I finally had a weekend getaway

  • I got a massage ;) or....

  • I gave a massage to someone I love!

Big wins. Tiny wins. Quiet wins.Any natural hit of feel-good dopamine.

Write it down. Drop it in.

Adding to the jar regularly builds a living reminder that you are, in fact,

moving forward and cultivating an amazing life, even when it doesn’t feel dramatic or obvious.

Revisit the jar when you need it.

Once a week. Once a month. Or whenever you need proof that your effort adds up.

Enjoy this practice, and by all means, drop a comment if you have a jar or create one! I would love to see a photo of the jar you make.

The awesome in me sees the awesome in you. ☺️
